The Artist

Andrea Hanson

My story

Welcome to my art journey. My name is Andrea Hanson, I’m the sole artist behind Art & Anne! I craft hand-painted nature inspired artisan jewelry, and larger artwork that features Ontario landscapes. Anne is one of my nicknames, and I’ve been an artist for as long as I can remember. Hence the business name - my art and I!

I was introduced to acrylic landscape painting at the young age of 12, where I took adult painting classes in Lively, Ontario with my father after school. Fun fact: most of the print products on my website feature paintings I did in my teenage years!

Growing up, my family enjoyed camping on Manitoulin Island, exploring Killarney Provincial Park in canoes, and traveling across Canada. These memories now serve as inspiration for much of my artwork.

By day, I am a registered geoscientist, which also serves as inspiration for my artwork!

In 2020 I leapt out of my comfort zone and started Art & Anne, finally sharing my art with the world! Since then I’ve been challenging my artistic abilities and the definition of " art" by combining three things I love - nature, jewelry and painting to create one-of-a-kind pieces of miniature wearable art.

Now, my artwork allows my community to treasure a piece of home wherever they go. If you’re someone who loves nature and appreciates art, you’ve come to the right place!

Creative Process

My creative process starts with things that inspire me, like the beauty of northern Ontario. From the multitude of lakes, glacier scoured rocks, windswept trees, and sturdy canoes that bring back fond memories from my childhood, to the forest floor that is covered in mushrooms and flowers (I am one of those hikers that insist on stopping every few minutes to take pictures of the tiny forest treasures!).

Once inspiration sets in, I then begin designing. I carefully select the elements that resonate with me the most in that moment, envisioning how they can be translated into wearable art pieces that evoke the essence of Ontario landscapes.

Each piece is a labor of love, combining my artistic vision with my attention to detail, resulting in hand-painted artisan jewelry that allows my community to carry a piece of home with them wherever they go.

Creative people don’t have a mess, they have ideas lying around everywhere!

Handcrafted

Once I settle on a design, work in my home studio begins - a former tool storage room in the basement turned into an artistic haven.

Creating my hand-painted jewelry begins with carefully selecting high-quality materials, including acrylic paint in a range of vibrant colors, small precision paint brushes for intricate details, and jewelry findings meticulously sourced for their durability and aesthetics.

The process of crafting these wearable works of art involves patience, attention to detail, and a deep appreciation for the natural beauty of Ontario. This hands-on approach ensures that every piece of wearable art is unique. Each piece of art and jewelry is meticulously painted by hand, with every stroke and hue thoughtfully applied to capture the essence of the beloved landscapes that inspire my art.
